Woodhurst South
Structural Renovations Limited have now completed a 12 week contract in Maidenhead, refurbishing the external elements of luxury 1970s residential apartments.
Built in the grounds of the demolished Woodhurst Estate, in a picturesque location facing the River Thames, Woodhurst South was constructed using a reinforced concrete frame with brickwork infill and parapets.
Due to the large footprint of the building, it would have proved prohibitively costly to erect a full scaffold around the perimeter and therefore we proposed the use of temporary electric cradles of varying lengths to suit the width of each elevation. The cradles jibs and counterweight baskets were founded on protection boarding at rood level, to protect the recently installed felt roof.
Our works involved identifying all defective reinforced concrete, removing it and subsequently replacing it with products supplied by Fosroc Limited, who had produced a specification for the works. The products included steel protection, adhesion promotors, polymer modified repair mortars and a pigmented anti-carbonation coating.
Significant areas of frost damaged brickwork were also repaired and a silane siloxane penetrating liquid, also supplied by Fosroc was applied to afford further protection.
Whilst on site we also cut out and replaced defective mastic joints using Fosroc sealants to further weatherproof the building.
Some of the works were carried out during the exceptionally hot weather and our programme was adjusted to suit this and involved concentrating on shaded areas where possible and amended site working hours. By doing so we were able to complete the project on time and to the satisfaction of our client.
