Palladium Theatre

Following the easing of the COVID-19 lockdown, Structural Renovations Limited mobilised at the world-famous theatre for two separate projects; one in the basement and one on the roof.

Prior to commencing on site we developed various procedures that would create a safe working environment for our operatives and theatre staff – the theatre remains closed to the public at this time.

The basement works involved waterproofing the beer cellar, which is situated in a vault beneath the pavement. The vault had already been waterproofed previously but the system had failed and significant amount water was entering the area.

All existing render was removed, to expose the brickwork and localised repairs were completed. Following this a waterproof bandage was installed and all junctions between walls and floor, followed by the application of a polymer modified, cementitious waterproof render. Once cured the render is able to be decorated.

The works above the stage roof required us to apply a fibreglass reinforced polyurethane coating to the rear of a brick parapet wall. The Theatre had experienced significant amounts of water entering the building and temporary repairs had failed to solve the problem.

The wall was thoroughly cleaned and any missing pointing/cracked bricks were made good with polyurethane mastic. Following this an application liquid applied, polyurethane membrane was applied to the wall and whilst wet, fibreglass was firmly embedded. A top-coat of polyurethane membrane was applied to fully encapsulate the fibreglass and form an effective barrier against the elements.
